Jordan Henderson, capitão do Liverpool, equipe que conquistou após 30 anos o Campeonato Inglês, foi eleito o melhor jogador da temporada 2019-2020 da Premier League pela Associação de Jornalistas Esportivos Ingleses.
O jogador de 30 anos superou o meia belga Kevin De Bruyne, do Manchester City, o atacante Marcus Rashford, do Manchester United, e seus companheiros no “Reds”, o holandês Virgil Van Dijk e o senegalês Sadio Mané.

“Eu aceito esse troféu em nome de toda a equipe, porque sem eles eu não estaria em posição de receber essa honra. Esses garotos me fizeram um jogador melhor, um líder melhor e uma pessoa melhor”, disse o meia inglês.
Além de sua atuação nos gramados, Henderson também se destacou por suas boas ações fora de campo durante a interrupção das competições de futebol devido à pandemia do coronavírus.
Ele liderou a iniciativa ‘PlayersTogether’ durante o confinamento, com o objetivo de arrecadar fundos entre os jogadores para doá-los às autoridades de saúde britânicas.
“Espero que aqueles que votaram em mim o tenham feito em parte para reconhecer a contribuição de toda a equipe”, acrescentou.
